The 2020 Program

Sunday Afternoon, July 12th:
Check-In, Group Lessons,

Concert, and Picnic Supper

Registration check-in for all students:
12 noon to 2:00 pm in the lobby of the Rochester School; all students will receive their schedules for the week and their t-shirts at this time, as well as orientation information. At 2:10 pm we will meet in the auditorium for orientation and staff introductions.

From 2:45-3:30 pm, all instrument group lessons will meet in assigned classrooms. At 4:00 pm, the Rochester Chamber Music Society will present a wonderful chamber concert at the Rochester Church. Following the concert we'll have a bring-your-own-picnic supper on the town green. 

Monday through Thursday, July 13th to July 16th: The Daily Program

Classes will begin Monday morning at 8:40 a.m. It is advisable to
check the Rochester School lobby every morning for announcements and other information. Remember that Parents are required to accompany their children throughout the day. 

Class 1 meets from 8:40 a.m. until 9:40 a.m.
Class 2 meets from 9:50 a.m. until 10:50 a.m.
Class 3 meets from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

LUNCH from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Class 4 meets from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Class 5 meets from 2:10 p.m. until 3:10 p.m.

When you register, you may request that one of your class times be a practice time in lieu of an elective class.

At the end of the day, look for a pick-up soccer game on the school's athletic field, independent chamber rehearsals for older students, or swimming in the White River.

On Monday and Tuesday 3:30 to 5, we will have read-ins for more advanced students with faculty. Monday will be devoted to playing concertos from the Suzuki repertoire; Tuesday, we will have a mass string quartet read-in.


Wednesday, July 15th: GMSI 2020 T-shirt Day and GMSI Sampler Day!

All students, staff, and teachers should plan to wear their t-shirts on Wednesday (one t-shirt per child is included in your registration fee). We will take our official institute photos after lunch!

Piano students solo concert at 3:45pm in the auditorium. Sign-up with master class teacher on the first day of classes.

Thursday, July 16th: 4:00 Electives Performances,
BYO Picnic, and 6:30 Contra Dance

On Thursday afternoon, beginning at 4:00 p.m., the electives classes will be given the opportunity to do demonstrations or performances of their work from the week in the gymnasium of the Rochester School. This will be followed by a community-wide bring-your-own-picnic in the park and 6:30 Contra Dance at Pierce Hall.

Friday, July 17th: Our Last day

Only instrument classes meet on Friday: master classes, group lessons, chamber groups, and piano duets. These classes meet for only 30 minutes each, finishing up at noon. There will be a lunch break, followed at 1:15 p.m. by a concert of chamber music and piano duets, and then at 2:30 p.m. we will present Suzuki repertoire play-downs from the cellists, flutists, violists and violinists.  Institute will be completed by 4:30 on Friday.
