The Daily Program: Thursday, July 14th, Electives Performances

On Thursday afternoon, beginning at 4:15 p.m., the electives classes will be given the opportunity to do demonstrations or performances of their work from the week in the gymnasium of the Rochester School. This will be followed by a community-wide supper outside the gym dand Contra Dance at Pierce Hall.

The Daily Program: Friday, July 15th

Only instrument classes meet on Friday: master classes, group lessons, chamber groups, and piano duets. These classes meet for only 30 minutes each, finishing up at 12:30. There will be a lunch break, followed at 1:30 p.m. by a concert of chamber music, and then at 3:30 p.m. we will present piano duets/groups and Suzuki repertoire play-downs from the cellists, flutists, and violinists. This will be followed by a final reception before we all say "good-bye" for another year. The reception usually ends by 5:30 p.m.

Non-Suzuki Students

Students not currently enrolled in a Suzuki program are welcome, but require prior approval from the GMSI Director, Jody Woos (802) 453-2360.

The Teen Program - New for 2011!

Teens at GMSI have been asking for a number of years for us to increase the amount of time they spend with us, and provide them with more time together. This year, we are introducing a new teen program, which will be optional for all GMSI students ages 13 and up. We can take up to 20 students in this program, which will begin on Saturday July 9. Here are the features of the program:

  1. For students in chamber groups, rehearsal time with piano and string coaches, as well as scheduled independent rehearsals, on both Saturday and Sunday.
  2. Teen theater with Kendra Gratton, meets both Saturday and Sunday, as well as during the week. Performance on Thursday afternoon.
  3. Master classes with two students per class during the week.
  4. Caribbean Steel Drumming with Scott Paulson, meets on Saturday and Sunday, as well as during the week. Performance on Thursday afternoon.
  5. One additional elective of your choice which would meet Monday through Thursday. Choices include: composition, improvisation, fiddling, viola, jazz piano, piano duets, second instrument lesson.

An additional fee of $100 is required to participate in this program.

Non-Instrument Sibling Program

Siblings of students attending the camp are eligible for up to 3 elective classes (excluding chamber music, piano duets, orchestra and composition) on a space available basis for ages 4 and up.

Scholarships

Each student may take an automatic scholarship of up to $75 if it would make the difference between attending the institute and not attending. There are very limited additional scholarship funds available this year. If you are in need of funding, please explore your local resources first. Many communities have arts organizations or other groups that can help you with tuition. Please email GMSI director Jody Woos or call (802) 453-2360 only after you have exhausted all other avenues of funding.
