The 2010 Program
Sunday Afternoon Check-In, Group Lessons, Concert, and Picnic Supper, July 11th
Registration check-in from noon to 2:00 pm in the lobby of the Rochester School; all students will receive their schedules for the week and their t-shirts at this time, as well as orientation information. At 2:15 pm we will meet in the Auditorium for orientation and staff introductions. From 2:45-3:30 pm, all instrument group lessons will meet in assigned classrooms. At 4:00 pm, Julia Salerno, violin, Ben Gish, cello and Cynthia Huard, piano, will perform piano trios by Arensky, Mendelssohn, and Smetana in the Rochester Federated Church. Bring-your-own-picnic supper and ice cream social (we'll provide the ice cream, donated by the Domas Family of the Rochester Cafe) on the town green will round out our afternoon/evening following the concert.

When you register, you may request that one of your class times be a practice time in lieu of an elective class.
At the end of the day, look for a pick-up soccer game on the school's athletic field, independent chamber rehearsals scheduled for older students, pick-up improv band in the music room, and the possibility of swimming in the White River or tennis behind the school.
On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, we will have read-ins for more advanced students. One night will be devoted to playing concertos from the Suzuki repertoire; on the other night, we will have a mass string quartet read-in.
The Daily Program: Mini-recitals
Each student at the institute will have the opportunity of presenting a solo work at a mini-recital. This piece should be one that the student has thoroughly mastered, is totally comfortable with, and has performed before. It should be a piece that is at least 5 pieces back from your current piece. It should be a piece that the student would love to share with our music-appreciating families. If you are interested in participating, you must indicate this on the registration form. NOTE that there will be NO solo performances on Friday at the end of the Institute.
The Daily Program: Wednesday, July 14th, is GMSI 2010 T-shirt Day
All students, staff, and teachers should plan to wear their t-shirts on Wednesday (one t-shirt per child is included in your registration fee). We will take our official institute photos after lunch!
The Daily Program: Thursday, July 15th, Electives Performances
On Thursday afternoon, beginning at 3:45 p.m., the electives classes will be given the opportunity to do demonstrations or performances of their work from the week in the gymnasium of the Rochester School. This will be followed by a community-wide supper and Contra Dance.
The Daily Program: Friday, July 16th
Only instrument classes meet on Friday: master classes, group lessons, chamber groups, and piano duets. These classes meet for only 30 minutes each, finishing up at 12:00 noon. There will be a lunch break, followed at 1:15 p.m. by a concert of chamber music, and then at 3:15 p.m. we will present piano duets/groups and Suzuki repertoire play-downs from the cellists, flutists, and violinists. This will be followed by a final reception before we all say "good-bye" for another year. The reception usually ends by 5:30 p.m.
Non-Suzuki Students
Students not currently enrolled in a Suzuki program are welcome, but require prior approval from the GMSI Director,
Jody Woos (802) 453-2360.
Non-Instrument Sibling Program
Siblings of students attending the camp are eligible for up to 3 elective classes (excluding chamber music, piano duets, orchestra and composition) on a space available basis for ages 4 and up.
Scholarships
Each student may take an automatic scholarship of up to $75 if it would make the difference between attending the institute and not attending. There are very limited additional scholarship funds available this year. If you are in need of funding, please explore your local resources first. Many communities have arts organizations or other groups that can help you with tuition. Please email GMSI director
Jody Woos or call (802) 453-2360 only after you have exhausted all other avenues of funding.
